The Invertebrate Genus–Species Archive

Tarantulas, Scorpions, Centipedes, and More

Explore the world of tarantulas, scorpions, and centipedes—three groups of invertebrates shaped by ancient ecosystems, specialized survival strategies, and extraordinary diversity. From velvet-footed burrowers and web-building ambushers to armored nocturnal hunters and lightning-fast predators, each species tells a story written in behavior, anatomy, and habitat.

From detailed species profiles to natural history and habitat notes, we’re a family team of scientists focused on building a practical, research-driven library for keepers, breeders, and the simply curious. Learn how these animals were identified, where they live in the wild, how they behave, and what they need to thrive in captivity—grounded in observation, published sources, and responsible husbandry.

Purpose of this website

I’m a Doctor of Epidemiology, a field focused on the risk factors and causes of disease in humans, and I’ve published extensively in epidemiology. I’m not an arachnologist, and I don’t present myself as an expert in tarantula science or husbandry. Tarantula keeping is simply a hobby for me, and this website is primarily a living repository documenting my personal collection and notes. The site is updated frequently.

In exploring the tarantula literature, it’s clear that relatively few researchers publish specifically on tarantula science. As a result, the field can feel fragmented—there are inconsistent and shifting classifications, occasional misidentifications, uneven distribution information, and persistent misunderstandings. I’m not here to resolve those broader issues, but I hope my firsthand experience with the species I keep can help clarify and harmonize information where possible.
